Española Humane’s mission is to end animal suffering, especially in underserved communities, and services are free to at-risk animals in Rio Arriba County. In 2018, Española Humane completed 5,328 spay/neuter surgeries, 12,345 vaccinations and 3,356 microchips for pets in underserved neighborhoods. The nonprofit also gave away 3,240 pounds of straw to help insulate family pets during the winter. The goal is to reduce the number of unwanted animals at the shelter by creating a healthier community for pets and their families.
Española Humane has touched the lives of more than 146,000 companion animals since opening its doors 27 years ago. In 2018, Española Humane received 3,079 animals, placing 83% of them in loving homes. The nonprofit accepts every animal, regardless of how old, sick, neglected or abused.
