Española Humane’s mission is to end animal suffering, especially in underserved communities, and services are free to at-risk animals in Rio Arriba County. In 2017, Española Humane completed 4,346 spay/neuter surgeries, 10,696 vaccinations and 2,326 microchips for pets in underserved neighborhoods. The nonprofit also gave away 1,200 pounds of straw to help insulate family pets during the winter. The goal is to reduce the number of unwanted animals at the shelter by creating a healthier community for pets and their families.
Española Humane has touched the lives of more than 143,000 companion animals since opening its doors 26 years ago. In 2017, Española Humane received 2,863 animals, placing 84% of them in loving homes. The nonprofit accepts every animal, regardless of how old, sick, neglected or abused.
