Española Humane’s mission is to end animal suffering and improve the lives of animals in underserved communities. Our services are free to at-risk animals in Rio Arriba County. We serve the people and animals of Rio Arriba County, the Native American Pueblos of Ohkay Owingeh, Santa Clara, and San Idelfonso, and northern Santa Fe County. Our Pet Amigos team goes door-to-door in neighborhoods to offer resources for families such as pet food, help with fencing, alternatives to chaining and leashes and collars and spay/neuter options to keep beloved pets in their homes. Our goal is to reduce the number of unwanted animals at the shelter by creating a healthier community for pets and their families.
Española Humane has touched the lives of more than 153,000 companion animals since opening our doors. In 2019, Española Humane received 3,560 animals, finding new homes for 1,896, transferring 653 through to trusted partners and reuniting 651 with their guardians. Our clinic team altered 6,055 dogs and cats; vaccinated and tested 16, 591 animals; microchipped 5,778, and transported 381 to our clinic for services. We accept every animal, regardless of how old, sick, neglected or abused.
Española Humane has open staff positions from time to time. We post these on our Careers page. If you’re looking to join our team of staff members, please check out the current open positions.
