Our Mission

Española Humane’s mission is to improve the lives of animals in underserved communities. Simply stated, we go where the need is greatest.

Our Impact

We take pride in being an open-door shelter, welcoming every animal without charge. Our spay/neuter clinic is also free to animals in Española, Rio Arriba County, and the surrounding Pueblos. In the last year, we had the following impact:

  • Shelter

Our shelter received 4,343 animals, mostly dogs and cats. But we also take “pocket pets” like rabbits, ferrets and hamsters.

  • Clinic

Our clinic completed 6,806 free spay/neuters, 11,480 free vaccinations, and 6,632 free microchips.

  • Community

Our team went door-to-door in Española, offering whatever it takes to keep pets in loving homes, and helped 741 animals.

  • Creative

We adopted 101 puppies at Ojo Santa Fe’s Puppy Patch; brought 16 underdogs to Paws in the Pen; flew or drove 371 animals to other organizations for adoption.

  • Responsible

We’re determined to make a lasting difference. 89% of every dollar goes to the animals. Every windfall goes to our endowment.

  • Balanced

We raised more money than we spent and valued the importance of impact measurement. This approach earned us 4-Stars with Charity Navigator and the Platinum Seal from Candid.

Our Supporters

Year after year, our budget is met by fundraising. We couldn’t achieve our mission without well-established relationships with partners, suppliers, donors, sector advocates and the media. Thank you!
