There are some things every pet owner should know about owning an animal within the city or in Santa Fe County and beyond. Santa Fe requires all dogs and cats six months and older to be licensed, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered. For more information, please link to Santa Fe, Santa Fe County, Espanola City, Rio Arriba County or Los Alamos for detailed ordinances.
Santa Fe Area Dog Parks
Frank Ortiz Dog Park – 160 Camino de Las Crudités
The area’s most popular Off Leash Dog Parks. This spectacular dog park has 138 acres of arroyos and hills, miles of trails and amazing views of Santa Fe. It’s one of the largest parks of its kind in the nation. Keep in mind, the park is not fenced, and dogs can roam comfortably on the trails. There is a large area near the free parking where dogs and people meet. It’s not for all dogs and many dogs that are not social or are fearful may not be comfortable.

Dining with Dogs
New Mexico began allowing dogs onto restaurant and bar patios after it was allowed by state statute in 2011. However, not all restaurants have found it comfortable to have pets mingle among patrons and it is up to a restaurant or bar to accept those dogs that are not service animals. There are two environmental health rules for dogs in restaurants and another for dogs on patios. Restaurants are allowed to accept only true service animals indoors, which includes emotional support animals.
