How to Adopt

Thank you for searching for your next best friend at Española Humane. We have a variety of adoptable pets on our website and our shelter receives pets daily.

Once you have found a pet you’re interested in adopting, please select “Adopt me” on that pet’s individual profile page and follow the onscreen steps to create a profile with Adopets. (Adopets partners with us to make it easy for you to find a match and keeps you notified about the process by email.) Please note: Applying for a pet does not hold a pet for adoption.

Following your account setup, you will receive an email with further instructions explaining how to schedule your appointment to meet the pet you applied for, along with additional information. Review the following steps for more detailed information. It’s best to use Google Chrome browser to create your account. If you experience any issues, please refresh your browser by using the commands CTRL + SHIFT + R. Adopets customer service will also happily assist you.

Step 1. View Available Pets Online

Begin the process by viewing our website’s Available Pets page and selecting a pet you would like to adopt. Tip: Choose a location (animals at our shelter or in foster), sex, age and/or size to filter your search results.

Step 2. Create an Adopets Account

Once you have found a pet you are interested in, click the button the “Adopt me” found on the pet’s individual webpage. This will begin the process of creating an Adopets account. (Tip: After creating an account, you may “save” more than one profile to come back to later.) Once your Adopets account has been created, you can complete an adoption application.

Step 3. Schedule a Meet-N-Greet

Once your application has been received and reviewed by staff, you will receive an email to schedule a “Meet-N-Greet” appointment at our shelter using our scheduling software called Calendly.

Adoptions are on a first-come, first-serve basis and appointments must be made within 48 hours. Staff will move to the next applicant if the “Meet-N-Greet” appointment isn’t made, canceled or the applicant fails to show up.
