Bestselling author, award-winning mixologist, and passionate animal advocate Natalie Bovis is celebrating International Dog Day with a book signing and signature cocktails at a Santa Fe distillery.

The 1-3 p.m. event is slated for Saturday, Aug. 26, at As Above So Below Distillery in the Santa Fe Railyard District. A portion of the book sales from this event benefits Española Humane.

Bovis, founder of The Liquid Muse, a nationally recognized mixology education and culinary events company, will sign copies of “Drinking with My Dog: the Canine Lovers’ Cocktail Book.” The colorfully illustrated hardcover is packed with doggie trivia and cocktail recipes honoring rescue dogs, famous poochies, dogs of world leaders, and dog-themed holiday drinks. There is also a chapter on setting up your own home bar and directions to create a signature cocktail to toast your own pup.

“I am thrilled to raise funds for the very shelter from which my own dogs, Lula and Ciela, were adopted,” says Bovis. “Espanola Humane Animal Shelter has a devoted team caring for at-risk animals, and I love that they provide free spay and neuter services. I look forward to meeting other animal lovers and proud to do this special book signing in my hometown of Santa Fe!”

Signature cocktails from As Above So Below Distillery, 545 Camino de la Familia, Santa Fe, will be available for purchase. The distillery features an outdoor patio that is perfect for pets. The shelter will offer information about volunteer and foster opportunities during the book signing.

“Natalie is an amazing friend to our shelter and a true animal advocate,” said Murad Kirdar, the shelter’s community relations director. “If you haven’t had a chance to read ‘Drinking with My Dog,’ please do – it’s a delight. The canine history and trivia are eye-opening, and the cocktail recipes will want you to start your own ‘home’ career as a mixologist!”

The shelter plans to bring foster dogs to the event for people to meet.
