ESPANOLA, NM – JUNE 30, 2025 – Española Humane proudly received a $20,000 grant investment from Petco Love, supporting lifesaving programs for animals and pet families across Rio Arriba County and Northern New Mexico.
Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested nearly $425 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. Through partnerships with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations across North America, Petco Love has helped find loving homes for more than 7 million pets—and counting.
“Our investment in Española Humane is part of more than $12 million in recent investments announced by Petco Love to support local organizations nationwide,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Together, we are working toward a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized. Our local investments are paired with innovative tools like Petco Love Lost, a free national lost-and-found database that uses patented photo-matching technology to help reunite lost pets with their families.”
“Petco Love is an extraordinary partner, both nationally and right here in our community,” said Kate Baldwin, executive director of Española Humane. “Their Santa Fe team consistently shows up for pets and the people who love them, and this investment helps ensure that lifesaving care remains accessible to families who need it most.”
Baldwin said the grant will directly support Española Humane’s core services, including free spay and neuter surgeries for residents of Rio Arriba County and neighboring pueblos, free vaccination clinics, reduced- and fee-waived adoptions, and proactive community outreach efforts.
She also noted that the investment comes at a pivotal moment for the organization as it prepares to open the new Española Humane Animal Clinic in March 2026. “This new clinic will significantly expand our ability to serve pets throughout Northern New Mexico,” Baldwin said. “With modern surgical suites and expanded wellness capacity, we’ll be able to reach more families, prevent more litters, and provide earlier, more effective care—keeping pets healthy and in homes where they belong.”
