Honey Bun (In Foster)

Hello! My name is Honey Bun (In Foster)!

Here’s what my friends at Española Humane say about me:

- Honey Bun is looking for that unicorn adopter: someone compassionate, patient, and as gentle as they are kind. We don't know what happened in her past to make her so shut down, but Honey's future is likely to be one of lots of indoor activities, light walks, and slow introductions. Honey is a scaredy cat about a lot of things, including but not limited to the outdoors, so if you're an avid hiker, she's not your gal. She'd love to find a quiet home with a fenced yard that will let her take things at her own pace, and give her a nice cozy crate to retreat to when she feels overwhelmed or just wants to relax. She'd also likely open up more quickly with another dog around- preferably a male or one who's on the calmer side.

Honey has been in loving foster with a cat (who she's not the biggest fan of) and a dog, who she likes to play with for about 30 minutes a day. Slowly but surely she's come out of her shell, has her goofy, playful moments, and will jump up on the bed for a little cuddle time. She desperately wants to be a snuggle bug, but gets nervous. She also licks hands to show her affection and, when she's feeling particularly brave, she'll lick your face. She adores pets, too. A pretty easy, low maintenance dog day to day, this girl has so much love to give, and deserves to find a forever home that will appreciate her in all her unique glory.

If you’re interested in adopting me, fill out an application to get a jump start on the process! We don’t offer holds on shelter pets, so c’mon in to meet and greet to decide if you’ve met your match. Applications for pets in foster care, at Ojo Santa Fe, or offsite in other programs will be reviewed by staff before appointments are scheduled.

More Questions?

  • How much does it cost to adopt a pet?

Puppies and kittens range from $10 to $50. Adults over 6 months are usually free. Adoption fees will be higher for certain breeds and in some locations. For example, Ojo Santa Fe puppies are typically $150.

  • How do my adoption fees help the shelter?

Adoption fees help with medical care, food, and shelter for all animals, not just the youngest or cutest. Most of that expense is paid by our fundraising efforts.

  • How can I prepare my home for adoption?

It depends on your floof’s age and whether they’re a dog or cat. Check out our tips for preparing your home for your new pet. We provide you with a “starter kit” of a collar, pet food and treats.

Also learn about the 3-3-3 rule. It takes a new pet 3 days to calm down, 3 weeks to adapt to your family, and 3 months to bond and build trust. Don’t worry. We’ll have more details and other tips in your adoption package.

  • How do I become a foster parent?

It’s simple. Start by filling out a foster application and our team will contact you. Fostering can be as easy as having a litter of young ones in a spare bathroom before they go to an adoption event. Or, maybe you’d like an adult to spend time with your family, just to see how that pet transforms with a little love and attention. We promise it’ll be rewarding.
